Do you like cupcakes? Of course you like cupcakes, but the cupcakes are merely the hook with which I lure you in. Tomorrow Downtown Jacksonville will see the glorious arrival of March’s First Wednesday Art Walk, running for 7-years and still going strong.
Boasting the accolades of being voted “Best Art Walk” in Folio Weekly’s Best of Jax 2011 and “Best Artsy Event” and “Best Place to Meet New People” in Jacksonville Magazine’s Best of Jax 2011, this event will run from 5pm until around 9pm regardless of whatever the weather’s doing, and is a free self-guided tour that gives you the chance to enjoy and support Jacksonville’s creative talent. The event spans 15-blocks within the heart of Downtown Jax. Around 40 museums, galleries, cultural venues, bars, restaurants and businesses on board and dozens of artists in the open-air Hemming Plaza.
This event happens on the – surprise surprise – first Wednesday of every month and this month is notable because it gives you the chance to sample the cupcakes created and baked by bloggers, cupcake masters and beer lovers Baking Under the Influence, who will be offering Chocolate Rain, Rick Roll and Mimosa cupcakes…the Rick Roll one intrigues me as I’m absolutely fed up of being Rick Rolled by everyone and would welcome the chance to eat a cupcake that had Mr Rick’s smug little face on it.
The event is produced by Downtown Vision Inc, and if you’re new to First Wednesday Art Walk then I suggest you follow their helpful Frequently Asked Questions section (including info on parking), and what to do if you want to be a participant.
I’ll be bullying the Hublet to take me there after work, and even if my motivation is more centered around cupcake devouring and not so much the Art, I hope that being in such a cultured environment will have a good effect on me.
